Celebrate the best of Summer in York (and win York Passes for the family!)

Summer in York

We might be biased, but York really is the place to be this summer, with a jam-packed calendar of events for the whole family, whether you need something to keep your children entertained and inspired over the summer break or you’re craving a child-free night out. You can discover some of the best things to do in the city over the next few weeks with Visit York’s new handy guide to summer in York. Here’s a little taster of what’s on offer.

There’s something for the whole family at York Minster, from trails to craft activities for young explorers. After your visit, why not enjoy refreshments from The Minster Village with freshly cooked food, drinks and ice cream in the pretty outdoor area. Fancy meeting some Vikings? Travel back in time to encounter one of the largest Viking hoards ever discovered in the UK at the JORVIK Viking Centre, with a special exhibition of the Silverdale Hoard. The Viking loo is, predictably, always a hit with children too.

Summer in York

Summer is the ideal time to see the city from the River Ouse aboard City Cruises’ freshly painted blue boats. Kick back and let the captain do the hard work on a sightseeing cruise, or take to the water yourselves on a self-drive boat. Pack a picnic and make an adventure of it.

THOR’S Orangery is a brand-new addition to Parliament Street with its very own courtyard and stage with a programme of music and live events. There’s plenty of local food options if you’re peckish, and children are welcome.

Make travelling into the city easier with York Park & Ride zero-emission electric buses. An adult return ticket is just £3.50 and up to three children go free. Buy your ticket and plan your journey on the First Bus App. Taking the bus is much more fun than hunting for an elusive parking space, and you could even have a cheeky drink in the sunshine at Thor’s knowing that you won’t be driving home!
