The Potions Academy – A magical new attraction for York!

shambles york

Big news, Potter fans! York’s iconic Shambles is already a must-visit for fans of all things wizard-related, and it’s set to get even more magical with the opening of a brand new attraction that sounds amazing for families. Set to open in July 2024, The Potions Academy is the brainchild of Ben Fry and Phil Pinder, the brains behind The Potions Cauldron and The Hole in Wand. It’s part of a wider expansion of The Potion Cauldron Group that already boasts three mini golf attractions (York and Blackpool with the third opening in Chester in May) and two magical Potions Cauldron shops (York and Edinburgh).

About The Potions Academy

At the heart of The Potions Academy will be two captivating experiences that are perfect for kids. The first, Broom School, is a broom flying experience that invites wizards and witches to embark on a virtual flying adventure across the cityscape, evading landmarks and outsmarting dragons, with a personalized souvenir video to take home.

The second experience, Potions Class, will offer a 30-minute immersive journey into the world of alchemy. Led by skilled actors, participants will delve into the art of potion-making while savouring the renowned elixirs crafted by The Potions Cauldron.

Watch this space! The Potions Academy also plans to offer additional experiences in late 2024 including Wizard afternoon teas as well as walking tours and animal encounters.

Opening hours and location

The Potions Academy will be located in the Shambles, you will access it through the Shambles Market (locals will know it as the former Sew and Sews shop). Initially open on weekends and holidays, the attraction aims to weave magical memories for both visitors and local residents, creating magical memories for all families. Keep an eye out for more information.
