On Saturday 30 April 2022 at 2.15pm, York Theatre Royal and the Aesthetica Film Festival are teaming up for a special film screening, inviting York families to be inspired by independent film.

Animation: Imagination & Discovery is a 60-minute screening that will introduce children to the wonderful world of animation, from stop-motion fairytales to hand-illustrated stories. These six films, which are suitable for all ages, cover a range of topics that are highly relevant in a child’s emotional education, from love and loss to friendship and identity. Beyond that, some of the films are just good fun!

Expect curious characters and eye-catching illusions in this fantastic programme of short animations. In Fishwitch, Derek, an aquatic creature, tries to win the heart of Tootega, an isolated sea-witch living on an iceberg. The Amazing Adventures of Awesome tells the story of a young autistic girl who finds herself at the heart of a quiet, but nonetheless powerful, revolution. The Penguin Who Couldn’t Swim is a heart-warming tale about a disabled penguin who lives on a rocky island in the Southern Ocean where she is set apart from the rest of her family and colony.

Beyond Animation: Imagination & Discovery, there are 7 other film nights taking place at the Theatre between April and July, featuring award-winning documentaries, comedies, animations, thrillers, dramas and family friendly films. These works, part of the Season of Film, chime in with both local and national events, including Earth Day and York Pride, as well as some of the productions on show at the Theatre.
Here is your chance to see works that aren’t available at the cinema, introduce your children to independent film, and ignite the imagination.
