The ever-popular Bolton Abbey Welly Walk is back for 2021! Officially open again from 22nd May, it’s a fun, one-way woodland walk with equipment dotted along the route to climb over, scramble under and balance on. Start at the stepping stones and work your way towards the Cavendish Pavilion where you can get refreshments. There’s no minimum age requirement, but it’s best suited to confident walkers and climbers.

It’s a brilliant way for kids to get some exercise without really noticing, and walking through the pretty woods is a treat for the whole family. Note that the terrain is undulating and therefore not suitable for buggies or wheelchairs (and we’d recommend sensible footwear too!). There’s no admission charge, just pay to park (pre-book a space at the Village Car Park).
While you’re there – Not far from Bolton Abbey is Billy Bob’s Parlour, an American diner in the Yorkshire Dales! It’s firmly family-friendly, and a very fun place to eat. Fancy staying a little longer? We’re fans of family-run campsite, Catgill Farm, which welcomes tents and camper vans, and has glamping options too.
