York Treasure Hunt with Indie York/iTravel York
An exciting, family-friendly treasure hunt is coming to the centre of York on 5th September 2020. Eagle-eyed walkers of all ages can spot clues in independent shops and other business windows. Participants will figure out what theme the clues indicate and have the chance to enter a prize draw for a £50 York Gift Card.
Indie York are providing a map with walking routes that take in all 60 participating independent businesses. You will be able to find details of participating businesses at www.indieyork.co.uk/treasurehunt all of which will have paper copies available. Find out all the other ways to get walking during the York Walking Festival (5th to 13th September) at www.itravelyork.info.
There are 7 different clusters of businesses taking part around the city with 7 themes to guess. The map will tell you where the clusters are. The clues in business windows are also colour coded, so participants will know if they are in the green cluster, red cluster and so on. To enter the prize draw, go to www.itravelyork.info for further details.
Maps are free of charge and can be picked up in 68 shops around the City with notices in their windows and also from the Visit York Information Centre as from 5th September. The York Walking Festival and first series of Indie York Treasure Hunts will take place between Saturday 5th September and Sunday 13th September.
The clusters of businesses or areas are often based around our ancient streets in York such as Goodramgate, Gillygate, Fossgate, Walmgate, Micklegate, Stonegate and the Shambles. The ‘York Walking Festival’ and ‘Indie York Treasure Hunt’ will also take in less ancient streets like Bishy Road. In each of the participating shop windows there will be a clue that will help you to understand the riddle that the Shambles has come up with or the answer to the Goodramgate question. Once completed you can enter the prize draw for that area and win a possible £50 gift card to spend in a shop or business of your choice. Individual businesses might also provide a little bonus or a small piece of treasure whilst on the route.
Indie York Treasure Hunt in October
There is due to be a second round of Treasure Hunt events taking place in the half-term October holiday on the first and last weekends. These will be a more extensive range of Treasure Hunts and these hunts will be themed ‘Medieval and Magical’ to take in the indie businesses and the unique attractions, buildings and historic monuments. Again, these will be based on small areas working together to create their own treasure hunt. Keep an eye out for more details.
