Fountains Abbey – Free entry with Heritage Open Days 2021
Fountains Abbey is a World Heritage Site encompassing monastic ruins and a Georgian water garden, and visitors will enjoy free entry on 18th September 2021 thanks to Heritage Open Days. Designated as a World Heritage Site in 1986, Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal is a place of contrasts and surprises. Make the most of free access on Saturday 18th September to stroll among the abbey ruins, admire the 18th-century Georgian water gardens and explore the deer park.
Enjoy These Passing Things: contemporary artwork uncovering the story of the water garden. Gain a new perspective with Drifted, 12 floating pyramids which take inspiration from a lost pyramid folly. Discover a new viewpoint with Bridged, a scarlet contemporary bridge sitting across the river Skell, close to the site of a lost 18th century iron bridge. Head to the Temple of Piety to see Spiked, an inflatable artwork which will burst through the columns. Find out about how beer and bread kept the monastic community going at Fountains Mill, with a variety of activities available.
