Surrounded by 1,200 acres of unspoilt Yorkshire countryside, Ampleforth Abbey is the perfect place to reconnect, relax and unwind. Here you can enjoy the simple things in life – fresh air and space to play – whilst discovering the fascinating heritage of this special place.
One of only a handful of working monasteries in the UK, Ampleforth Abbey has been home to a community of Benedictine monks since 1802. The family-friendly Visitor Centre offers a warm welcome, children’s activities, and an introduction to the history of the Abbey and the life of a Benedictine monk.
Families are invited to explore the Abbey Church and grounds, with children’s trails and explorer backpacks designed to encourage adventure and exploration. Scenic walking trails connect the Abbey’s lakes, woodland and heritage orchard, whilst the Tearoom offers delicious homemade food and stunning views of the valley.
Ampleforth Abbey offers a variety of free family events throughout the year. Parking and admission are both free.
