York’s coolest annual event, York Ice Trail, returns for 2024 with a new theme – City of Dreams – and we couldn’t be more excited. Playing host to lots of amazing sculptures, this popular free event is taking place on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th February 2024. You can see a list of all of the sculptures here. A printed map will be available shortly before the event, but here are some more details in the meantime. You can download a map to print at home here.
Head to Middletons’ mystical Wonka world of chocolate
The grounds of Middletons Hotel will be transformed into a mystical world of chocolate during the trail, including 4 show-stopping sculptures from City Cruises, York Chocolate Story, Potion’s Cauldron and Middletons themselves. Discover York BID’s mythical creatures as they roam the city – keep an eye out for the Himalayan Yeti, brave the terrifying Kraken, meet the nine-headed Hydra, take selfies with the majestic Unicorn and marvel at the immortal Phoenix.
Trains, buses and more
Explore the spectacular skyline of York and London with Grand Central and their sculpture ‘A
journey in ice’, or ‘Fly into York with P&R’ to take a magical bus journey through the clouds
from sponsors York Park & Ride.
Live ice sculpting
There’ll be live ice carving across the weekend at St Sampson’s Square with Icebox, where you can see for yourself how ice sculptors bring the ice trail to life.
