Castle Howard is a firm favourite for family days out from York, and spring is one of the best times to visit. The gardens burst into colour, Skelf Island, the epic adventure playground, is amazing for kids and it’s always a hit with the grown-ups too. 2. Baby animals and play at Piglets Adventure Farm

This popular attraction comes to life in the spring with baby lambs you can bottle feed, tractor rides and plenty of space to run around. There’s an indoor play barn if the weather turns, but on sunny days, the bouncing pillows, go-karts, sandpits, ride-ons and fairy trail are all big hits.
