Much as we love the summer holidays – no pack-ups to make, uniforms to iron or PE kits to remember – they are LONG. The majority of parents will need, or want, a holiday club or camp for a few days or more so they can work or get stuff done without little people in tow. It’s always better to pack them off for the day to something really fun, and we’re lucky that York has lots of brilliant options for holiday clubs, camps and workshops. Some run for the whole holiday while others are just a few days long. There’s something for children who love to sing and dance, sporty clubs for kids who need tiring out and some that have a mixture of everything. York Stage School Summer School Show in a Week – Led by Principal Nik Briggs and a team of industry professionals, York Stage’s Summer School – Show in a Week is the perfect place to unleash your talent, make new friends, and shine bright! Across the week you’ll be making a brand new show using songs from SIX The Musical, Newsies, Hamilton, Wonka and many more. This will be performed at Theatre@41 on the final day so if you love creating scripts, performing songs or learning dances this is the Summer School for you.
Families and friends will be able to book tickets for what is set to be a brilliant show and will be presented with full lighting, scenery, costumes and a live band! Frozen Jr Show in a Week with PQA York – PQA York invites you to take part in their FROZEN JR ‘show in a week’ Summer School from 5th to 9th August 2024!
Join their team of industry professionals as they explore, cast, rehearse and perform FROZEN JR. Their creative team will lead singing, dancing and drama sessions as they prepare the show for performance on the last day. This is your chance to appear in PQA’s very own version of an amazing show – it’ll be an experience you won’t forget!

Arty sessions at The Colour Corner – The Colour Corner is a new children’s art studio in Wetherby that offers fun, creative holiday sessions as well as term-time classes. We Will Rock You! Summer School with Yorkshire Rose Academy of Dance – Join YRAD for a fast-paced, action-packed week full of dancing, singing, and acting in this year’s Summer School. The popular Summer School week runs from 19th to 23rd August and ends with a performance for family and friends to enjoy. This year’s summer school is We Will Rock You! Fun active sessions with York RLFC – This summer, the York RLFC Foundation will stage over 55 sessions across York. Most are animed at kids aged 5-13 and are FREE, turn-up-and-play inflatable sessions. Multi-sport sessions and day camps do require advance booking, so visit their website for all the info.

Summer sessions with Yorkshire Muddings – During the summer holidays, the Yorkshire Muddings forest school opens their play setting up to children up to the age of 10 (but best suited for up to age 7).
Enjoy the mud kitchen, reading area, climbing, digging, and general mud-making fun! You’ll enjoy nature crafts, learn about bugs and birds and use some tools. And it wouldn’t be Muddings without a camp fire and toasted marshmallows!
