It’s May, which means that things are going to start springing back to life faster than the daffodils on York’s city walls! We’re really excited that many of our favourite family-friendly attractions in and around York are going to be opening their doors again, from York Art Gallery to York Castle Museum. Further afield, but well worth the journey, Eden Camp is reopening this month too. Our eldest is studying World War Two as his school topic, so we’re definitely going to be visiting to see that period of time brought to life. Set in the buildings and grounds of an original WW2 Prisoner of War camp, visitors can experience the sights, sounds and smells of life on the Home Front and the Front Line.
Eden Camp Modern History Theme Museum will open again on 17th May 2021, government guidance permitting. All of the displays will be open, including the vehicle restoration workshop, and the play area will be open too (weather permitting) – always a bonus. There’ll be some live talks and demonstrations and the chance to help ‘build history’ in the Eden Camp Heritage Restorations Tank Bank, and they’ve started work on a new Blitz display, so keep an eye out for more information on that too. Details of their virtual tours and digital archive, new for this year, are available on the website. Tickets need to be pre-booked, so be quick if you’d like to visit during May half term (or any other time). Eden Camp, Malton YO17 6RT
