York Art Gallery is a very family-friendly place to visit, where you won't feel that you have to hush your kids or stop them from touching everything. Hands-on activities are dotted around the building, and there are certain exhibits that visitors are actively invited to touch and experience for themselves. There are often drop-in workshops during the school holidays and many of the exhibitions are programmed with families in mind, too. The cafe, Sketch, is a relaxed spot that welcomes children, too, and you don't need to be visiting the gallery to take grab a coffee or cake or even a meal.
