Something big and colourful is heading to York this summer: Acomb Fest! This new event is set to transform Acomb into an open-air gallery and creative playground from 3rd to 5th July 2026, with a packed programme where families are warmly welcomed.
A whole weekend of creativity
Across three days, Acomb Fest will include:
- – 15 venues hosting events and activities
- – 4 live mural paintings from internationally renowned artists
- – 10 art installations popping up across the area
- – A lively mix of live music, DJs and performances
- – Hands-on creative sessions for all ages
At the heart of it all is Acomb’s Front Street, where free street art workshops and family-friendly activities will be running throughout the festival.
World-class artists, right here in York
Headlining the live mural painting are some seriously impressive names:
- – SMUG, the Australian artist often described as the world’s best photorealistic muralist
- – Peachzz, Sheffield-based and runner-up for Best Mural in the World in 2024
- – Curtis Hylton, a leading wildlife artist
- – Sledone, Acomb’s own returning star
There’ll also be surprise installations and pop-ups in the run-up to the festival, creating a nature-inspired trail of artwork to explore.
More than murals
Acomb Fest goes far beyond paint on walls. Expect a full programme of creative events dotted across local venues, including:
- – Live spray battles and DJ sets at the Carlton Tavern
- – A community cinema at Acomb Explore Library
- – Spoken word sessions at Book and Bevs
- – Art exhibitions, markets and workshops across local churches and community spaces
Families are well catered for too, with:
- – Free activities at Acomb Methodist Church
- – Mini-beast trails in Fishponds Wood
- – Local history tours
- – Light installations at Holgate Windmill
There’ll also be plenty of food and drink to enjoy, with a mix of local favourites and special festival offerings.
Rooted in the community
What makes this festival feel extra special is how it’s been shaped. Over 1,100 local residents helped inform the theme, with a strong focus on reconnecting with nature and celebrating community spaces. As Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, David Skaith, put it, projects like Acomb Fest show how high streets can evolve into vibrant, creative hubs that bring people together.
Plan your visit
Tickets and full event listings will be released soon, with individual venues hosting their own ticketed sessions alongside plenty of free activities.
It’s shaping up to be one of the most exciting weekends of the summer in York, so keep an eye on the official website for updates and announcements: acombfest.co.uk
