Step Inside the Christmas Tree Festival
Start your Christmas celebrations by exploring the magical Christmas Tree Festival inside York Minster. Wander through the medieval Minster’s stunning Nave, Chapter House, and Lady Chapel, where 70 beautifully decorated trees create a winter wonderland, including a Little Vikings tree celebrating the very best of family-friendly York and beyond! Watch a child-friendly performance of The Nutcracker
Treat the whole family to a magical evening with a performance of The Nutcracker in York Minster’s spectacular Nave. Local children’s actress Gemma Sharp, from Hoglets Theatre, will take the audience on an enchanting journey to the land of sweets, accompanied by Ben Morris, York Minster’s Assistant Director of Music. Expect beautiful handmade puppets, captivating organ music and imaginative storytelling that will captivate both young and old alike. Saturday 7 December 2024, 7pm – Book online
Minster Mash-Up: Lights Switch-On (free!)
Join York Minster’s Minster Mash-Up, a worship event for young people and families, as they switch on the lights for the Christmas Tree Festival. This family-friendly event marks the beginning of Advent with joy and anticipation. Saturday 30 November, 10am – Free, no tickets required.
Crib Service (Free!)
A fun and accessible service for families, where children are encouraged to dress up as Nativity characters and enjoy carols and music, is hugely popular with York families. It’s a delightful way to experience the Christmas story and the perfect way to get you all in the Christmas mood. Tuesday 24 December, 11.30am – Free, no tickets required
