Discover York Army Museum this October Half-term!

Autumn in York just got a whole lot more fun, and tiny troopers are at the heart of it! The York Army Museum is throwing open its doors to young explorers and fearless fun-seekers with a line-up of activities designed for kids and families to dive into history like never before.

🛡️ What to Expect – From creative crafts, puzzles and games to mini missions and treasure trails, the museum brings military history to life through hands-on activities. Families can try on army uniforms, decode secret messages, beat the highest score at Tank Arcade or see if they can find all the mini ghosts peeping out from the displays to claim a ghostie goodie bag! Whether your little ones dream of being supersoldiers, cunning spies, or history detectives, there’s something here to spark their imagination.

🎨 Craft, Explore, Discover! – Kids can design their own medals, make camouflage patterns, or create poppy-inspired art while learning the stories behind the symbols. Museum staff and volunteers will be leading object handling activities on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday afternoons so you can get hands on with history. Object Journeys, a new temporary exhibition in partnership with the British Museum, opens from Friday 24 October and will tell the story of the Asante Ewer, a medieval lidded jug which journeyed to West Africa and back to Britain.
