September marks the beginning of an exciting new era at St Peter’s School as pupils return to a completely transformed Junior School, now housed in newly renovated facilities on their 50-acre campus, designed to inspire learning, creativity and discovery.
The launch of the new Junior School represents a significant milestone for the school and is a key part of St Peter’s move to a new two-school model, with the Senior School operating from Year 7 onwards. The development creates a seamless educational journey from Nursery and Pre-Prep through to Sixth Form, offering children an unrivalled environment in which to learn and thrive at every stage.

Head Master Jeremy Walker said the opening comes at the start of a landmark period for the school as it prepares to celebrate its 1400th anniversary in 2027.
“There is an exciting year ahead at St Peter’s as we celebrate the school’s 1400th anniversary in 2027. Starting the year on a high, this September we welcomed children back to their transformed Junior School, which we believe is comfortably the best offering in Yorkshire.
“It is set to be an exceptional year with the launch of our Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in October, keeping us at the forefront of educational research. In January we open The Rise Nursery, already over-subscribed, where families are now able to be part of the St Peter’s community from the age of six months.”

The newly relocated Junior School has been carefully designed to provide dedicated spaces that support both academic excellence and personal development. Pupils now benefit from a wide range of specialist facilities, including a new library, modern science laboratories, an Art Studio, Design Technology Workshop and a Theatre space.
The development also provides extensive opportunities beyond the classroom, with access to outstanding sporting and musical facilities such as enhanced spaces for performance and creative pursuits. Sport facilities include two dedicated sports halls, extensive outdoor areas, an astro turf, tennis courts plus multiple outdoor learning areas with interactive elements such as climbing equipment, water fountains and mud kitchens. Alongside these inspirational outdoor learning areas including a dedicated Forest School which pupils visit once a week. The entire Junior School has been reimagined to encourage curiosity, confidence in every child at a pivotal time in their learning journey.

Head of Junior School, Phil Hardy, expressed his excitement as pupils and families experienced the transformed school for the first time.
“It’s a privilege to welcome back our pupils and parents this term, who will see our wonderful new Junior School and all our incredible new facilities for the first time. A huge amount of work has gone on during the school holidays to transform the buildings into the best possible learning environment for our children, and I thank all the staff and contractors for their efforts.”
The extensive renovation, completed over the summer months, reflects St Peter’s commitment to providing an exceptional education in an environment that matches its ambition for every pupil. With specialist teaching spaces, enhanced facilities and a streamlined structure that supports children from their earliest years through to Sixth Form, the new Junior School is set to become a vibrant hub of learning for generations to come.

As St Peter’s looks ahead to its historic 1400th anniversary celebrations, the opening of the Junior School stands as a powerful symbol of the school’s continued investment in the future while remaining rooted in its rich heritage.
