York's Museum Gardens are a stunning place to visit, right in the heart of the city. There's plenty of space to run about, lots of beautiful ruins, a view of the river and plenty of wildlife (the squirrels are everywhere!). There's usually somewhere to grab a coffee, and it's a stone's throw from lots of cafes and restaurants if you fancy picking up something to go. The Museum Gardens are also home to The Yorkshire Museum, another very popular York museum (known as 'the dinosaur museum' by local children). Close to the Explore York Library, York Theatre Royal and York Art Gallery, it's perfectly placed for families.
