A half-hour drive from York but well worth the journey for anyone who loves to swim is Helmsley Open Air Pool. This fantastic volunteer-led facility is a unique place to swim, with spectacular views of the Howardian Hills. The pool is one of just three open air heated pools left in North Yorkshire.

They have times for open swimming, lane swimming, fun sessions (the best option for children) and you can even hire the pool for a birthday party! There's free parking and refreshments are available too.
