The rivers and us: Exploring Natural Flood Defence Stories Through Printmaking
Join artist Jessica Jenyns for a nature-inspired, printmaking workshop celebrating the flora and fauna of York’s rivers. This relaxed and creative workshop will explore the trees and plants being used as Natural Flood Defences and the wildlife that we find along, and in, the river. Create your very own River Print through two exciting printmaking techniques: Cyanotype and Monoprinting.
Using found, natural materials, participants will create layered prints inspired by trees, river plants, waterside landscapes and the animals that inhabit them.
The workshop begins with a short tour of the park, investigating ways in which the trees and plants are put to good use. This will also be a great opportunity for wildlife-spotting and to get those creative juices flowing!
Then it’s time for Cyanotype printing, where objects are arranged on special light-sensitive paper and exposed to sunlight (this works on cloudy days too, don’t worry!) to create striking blue-and-white images. Participants will then build on these prints using Monoprinting techniques with ink, rollers, and found objects to add details and colour.
Please make sure you wear clothes you don’t mind getting ink on. This will be a gorgeously creative workshop, giving you the opportunity to create something truly unique – getting messy is just one part of the process!
You will be able to take your print away with you, but it will still be wet so take care when transporting it home.
This workshop is wheelchair accessible.
