Dig for Hidden Treasures

york dig an archaeological adventure

At DIG, children can grab a trowel and explore specially designed excavation pits to uncover replica artefacts inspired by real discoveries made beneath the streets of York.

These hands-on archaeological activities allow young visitors to learn how archaeologists work while enjoying the thrill of discovering hidden objects. DIG also features dedicated play areas for younger children, making it a great family destination.

Step Into the World of Dragons

The immersive exhibition is based on the spin-off series from Cressida Cowell, inspired by the beloved How to Train Your Dragon universe.

Visitors can explore the Viking world of Berk through colourful settings, interactive displays, and storytelling experiences. Highlights include:

  • – Seeing a Windwalker dragon soaring overhead
  • – Visiting Hiccup’s bedroom hut to learn about life on the Isle of Berk
  • – Following the Dragon Trail throughout the exhibition
  • – Trying Viking fortune-telling activities
  • – Exploring the sounds and smells of Berk

Young dragon trainers can also discover original artwork, maps, and exclusive videos from Cressida Cowell herself.

Inspired by the New Dragon School Series

The exhibition celebrates Cressida Cowell’s latest book series, How to Train Your Dragon School. The story follows Hiccup, along with dragons Toothless and Windwalker, as they begin training at the Viking and Dragon Training School on the Isle of Berk. Copies of the books as well as other Dragon treats are available in our gift shop too.
