Did you know that York has its very own wildlife park? Askham Bryan Wildlife & Conservation Park is bursting with amazing animals to discover. In fact, over 100 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrates call it home! From playful otters and cheeky goats to colourful parrots and slithery snakes, bats, meerkats and wallabies, there’s an incredible assortment of creatures just a five-minute drive from Tesco Askham Bar (and a LOT more fun than attempting the big shop with kids in tow).
Set in a gorgeous arboretum, the park’s enclosures are cleverly placed to keep you connected to nature as you explore. And now there’s even more to enjoy with the brand-new Heritage Conservation Farm, where you can learn all about rare farm breeds and why they’re so important. There’s a play area too – always an important part of a day out with kids.
If your children are animal-mad, it’s worth mentioning that Askham Bryan hosts birthday parties, animal encounters and wildlife academy (holiday courses where you can spend time with the keepers and animals). It’s a gem of a place, and firmly family-friendly.
