Now open! York Station Family Lounge

York Station Family Lounge

Christmas has come early for families in York! As big fans of travelling by train with kids, we’re excited to tell you that rail journeys from York have just had a major upgrade for families thanks to the brand new York Station family lounge. With no traffic jams, no ‘are we nearly there yet?’ moments and no endless service station stops, train travel is already our favourite way to head off on journeys as a family ourselves. Now, with the opening of the LNER Family Lounge at York Station, it’s even better and easier for all families.

We went along to the launch at the station and were blown away by the new space. Thoughtfully designed with families in mind, the lounge is a warm, welcoming area where children can burn off energy and parents can catch their breath. The York-themed decor is colourful and fun and celebrates the city’s heritage, giving it a lovely local feel. There’s plenty of seating, gorgeous beach hut-themed booths with games, and even one that’s been designed with breastfeeding in mind.

For younger children, there’s plenty to explore, from interactive games to a mini version of York’s city walls, all in a safe and cosy environment – much more appealing than waiting on a chilly platform or in a boring waiting room. Older kids will soon have train-themed iPad activities to enjoy, giving them something engaging to do while the grown-ups relax and enjoy the comfortable seating (we can dream).

The best part? It’s completely free to use and open to all families, regardless of which train operator you’re travelling with and the ticket you’ve chosen. On behalf of travelling families, a huge congratulations and thank you to LNER and everyone who made this fantastic new facility a reality for parents moving through York Station. We love it!

Find the York Station Family Lounge in the main concourse, opposite WHSmith. Entry is free and opening hours will vary.
