Come and enjoy world-famous film locations at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) plus FREE kids’ activities, and best of all – kids go FREE! 

NYMR has launched an all-new film trail which is available for families to enjoy from 1st July 2024. It showcases the world-class films and TV series that have featured the heritage railway as an incredible location.The new film trail will be a permanent addition to the NYMR for movie and TV-loving families to visit places where some of the most famous blockbusters in cinematic history were filmed. The film trail features a map highlighting the locations that can be spotted on the big screen and guides families to those spots at the attraction.  The map can be downloaded from the website before you travel or picked up at the Booking Offices.

Over the years, the NYMR has been an iconic backdrop in blockbuster films including Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone as the setting for Hogsmeade Station – Goathland Station, as well as Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and Mission:Impossible – Dead Reckoning, to name but a few.

In addition to the new film trail, there’s lots of free hands-on activities for the whole family to enjoy this summer. You can join in with archaeology activities, test your spy skills and meet awesome birds of prey at our drop-in activities. Throughout the summer holidays, there are FREE weekly themed activities on Mondays at Pickering Station and on Fridays at Goathland Station from 10 am to 2 pm.  There’s no need to book, just drop in.

– Wonderful Wizards – children can create their own movie magic by making wands and hats and visiting Goathland Station, the location for Hogsmeade Station in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

– Awesome Archaeology – aspiring explorers can create their own powerful dial artefact.

Curious Creatures – get up close and personal with animals and see a Birds of Prey display.

Super Spies – kids can put their spy skills to the test, make a disguise and get involved in a code cracking activity.
