Mother's Day in York 2018: Things to do

Mother’s Day is fast approaching, and although most mums would be delighted with a lie-in and a homemade card, it’s a nice excuse to go out as a family. If you just fancy a day out, check out the Things to Do area of our website, which is packed with ideas. If you’d like to do something different, here are some Mother’s Day events and offers in and around York (and if the mum in question likes tea and cake, she’s in luck!).

Sing along to Mamma Mia at Everyman York

Exercise those vocal chords and get your Abba on at the Mamma Mia Sing-Along at the new Everyman York. The plush sofas and lovely range of food and drink make it a really lovely experience. Visit the Everyman website to book

Indulge in afternoon tea at Castle Howard

The first of Castle Howard’s themed afternoon teas arrives just in time for Mother’s Day. Specially created by the Head Pastry Chef and commended at the 2017 Afternoon Tea Awards, expect a showcase of the freshest seasonal produce. The Mother’s Day tea will include artisan breads with a variety of fillings, a selection of handmade patisseries, traditional scones and cream and a range of savoury bites. The Castle Howard scones have to be tasted to be believed – we’d almost go as far as to say they’re the best we’ve tasted. The Mother’s Day ticket includes entry to the gardens as well as the exclusive Afternoon Tea experience in the elegant Grecian Hall. Tickets cost £39.95 per person or £30 for members of the Castle Howard Friends scheme. Visit the Castle Howard website to make your reservation.
