Mother Shipton’s is preparing to cast a spell over families this Halloween with a bewitching new adventure inspired by Hocus Pocus. Taking place from 24 October to 1 November, the ancient woodland attraction in Knaresborough will be transformed with themed displays, witches and plenty of magical mischief.
Keep an eye out for an iconic trio of witchy sisters as you explore. Families can meet the witches, join their coven and pose for a magical photo together, as well as taking part in a selection of spooktacular activities along the way.

Halloween is the perfect time to explore the fascinating story behind one of Yorkshire’s most unusual attractions. Visit the cave where Mother Shipton, England’s most famous prophetess, is said to have been born before seeing the world-famous Petrifying Well. Here, everyday objects appear to turn to stone as mineral-rich water flows over them, a natural phenomenon that has inspired stories of magic, witches and the supernatural for centuries.
You can also make a wish at the mystical Wishing Well, discover the curious collection of petrified objects and browse the gift shop for magical keepsakes, Halloween treasures and unusual gifts.
Toast a ghost and enjoy a Halloween treat
Even witches need to stop for refreshments. Halloween treats will include black vanilla ice cream and warming pumpkin spice lattes. Families can also gather around the fire to Toast a Ghost, with marshmallow toasting available during the event. There are plenty of covered picnic benches overlooking the beautiful autumn colours, so you can bring along your own picnic too.
An autumn day out for the whole family
As well as the Halloween activities, visitors can enjoy the picturesque mile-long walk beside the River Nidd. Dogs are welcome too, making this a lovely autumn day out for the whole family, including four-legged friends.
