York Minster summer

Nature trails at York Minster

Experience nature this summer by bringing the family to York Minster. The Minster’s self-guided Nature Quest trail in Dean’s Park will lead you through the wildflower meadow patches, sensory gardens and bug hotel. Learn how to spot, identify and record plants and animals and create your own Green Man.

If you have the bug, continue the Nature Quest inside the Minster to discover how medieval stonemasons and glaziers brought the natural world into their building. Search for the mischievous mice, faithful dogs and guardian lions not to mention the Green Men, flowers and leaves hidden in plain sight around the Minster.

On Wednesdays throughout the summer holidays, the Learning and Gardening teams will invite families to discover the nature all around them on a free tour of Dean’s Park. Learn to identify leaves and flowers in our sensory garden; find out how the Minster are helping hedgehogs and listen out for the Minster’s resident Peregrine Falcons.

Wednesday sessions will take place at 10.00 am and 2.00 pm from 26 July – 30 August. The sessions will last for an hour and are free to attend. Children must be accompanied by their parents/carers.
