Nunnington Hall

Free entry to Nunnington Hall for Heritage Open Days

Discover over 300 years of stories of the people and objects who sought sanctuary at Nunnington Hall. Explore a history of how the hall has provided comfort and safety to residents throughout a vast range of historical events in Britain.

Nunnington Hall has been a sanctuary for many residents and objects over the last 300 years. From the evacuees of the Second World War to providing respite for the Women’s Land Army, even stained glass windows from York Minster were housed here, safe from war. The hall explores the stories of sanctuary through immersive displays, and engaging activities, working with local communities to create some wonderful displays. The House and Collections team will be doing Behind the Scenes tours, and delving into our collections stores to see some hidden gems. There will be a garden tour to celebrate the many changes to the garden over time at the hall, and an opportunity to bring your historic items to be looked at by a curator. Finally, there will be stalls to browse throughout the garden, and tasty treats and drinks to enjoy.
