York Castle Museum review

The Kirkgate Ghost Count (part of York Ghost Week)

Visit Kirkgate at The Castle Museum, one of the world’s oldest recreated indoor streets of its kind and the first to be opened in Britain, for The Kirkgate Ghost Count, part of York Ghost Week. Kirkgate is a detailed recreation of a Victorian-era high street and features shops in York from 1870 to 1901. Wander the street to see if you can count the hiding ghosts that inhabit Kirkgate and its back alleys. Ghosts of both sizes can be spotted in the shop windows, on ledges and fascias and in dark corners. You will need to look high and low, and some of the larger Ghosts are wearing hats this year. Pick up a tally sheet/entry form on admission. Two numbers will need to be recorded: the number of ghosts in total and the number of ghosts wearing hats.

Your entry form can be posted in the post box on the way out. There are three prize ghosts for those closest to the correct totals. In the event of a tie, three winners will be drawn at random.

This event is included with a general admission ticket, which also gives you access to York Castle Museum for 12 months!
