
Autumn and Halloween at Castle Howard
Castle Howard is a stunning place for a family day out from York this autumn. Here’s what to expect.
FOR KIDS
- – Skelf Island Adventure Playground – Let off steam at the amazing adventure playground, where the Skelves (mythical fairy folk) will be performing their play The Great Pumpkin Adventure from 25th October to 2nd November.
- – Pumpkin Hunt in the House – A gaggle of pesky pumpkins will be hiding around the House from 2nd to 31st October for little explorers to discover.
- – Hands-on Gardening – Budding gardeners can join Castle Howard’s volunteers to plant bulbs in the South Lake Meadow, which will bloom in spring. Runs daily from 25th October to 2nd November, 11am – 2pm.
FOR GROWN-UPS
- – 5th October – Fungi Foray – Learn all about mushrooms on a fascinating walk through the grounds.
- – 11th, 26th & 30th October – Late Night Tours of the House – Experience Castle Howard in a new light with special after-dark tours.
THAT’S NOT ALL…
Castle Howard’s Farm Shop and Garden Centre will be brimming with seasonal treats:
- – From 29th September, pick up pumpkins, gourds and squash for cooking or decorating.
- – Try the Pumpkin and Hot Honey Sausages, a warming seasonal blend from the Farm Shop Butchery – perfect for bangers and mash or toad-in-the-hole.
- – Helena Garcia Pop-Up – From 1st September to 31st October, Bake Off’s Helena Garcia brings her spooky, gothic style to Castle Howard with a pop-up shop full of homewares, clothing and gifts. Meet Helena in person on 13th September, 1pm–3pm, when she’ll be signing copies of her latest book The Little Gothic Bakeshop.
