
Eboracum Roman Festival 2025
March into the past and make history come alive this May half term!
York’s going full Roman this spring, and families are at the heart of the action. From marching legions and living history encampments to treasure hunts and storytelling, the Eboracum Roman Festival (24th to 31st May 2025) is packed with fun, fascinating ways to step back in time and explore life in Eboracum.
Led by York Museums Trust, in partnership with York Minster, York Archaeology and more, this city-wide celebration brings Roman York roaring back to life.
Family Festival Highlights:
🛡️ Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th May 2025 – Living History in Museum Gardens
Get hands-on with Roman crafts, meet a fortune teller, enjoy light-hearted storytelling and watch the kids train as Roman soldiers – complete with marching drills and artillery demos! It’s a fun-filled weekend of Roman action, right in the heart of York.
🎺 Roman Military Parade – 24th and 25th May
Watch the Roman legions march through the city streets from York Museum Gardens to York Minster, a sight that’s guaranteed to impress mini centurions and grown-ups alike!
🔍 Roman Treasure Hunt – 24th and 25th and 28th to 30th May, 10am–3pm
Join a city-wide mission to save Eboracum! This free treasure hunt leads families from the Yorkshire Museum to DIG, uncovering Roman secrets and solving clues along the way.
🧵 Living History at York Minster – 29th to 31st May
Step inside St Stephen’s Chapel and discover Roman beliefs, crafts and daily life through interactive history sessions. Kids go free with a paying adult (or for free if you’re a York resident).
