City Cruises York Santa Experience: Full Festive Review

city cruises york review santa

We’ve been lucky enough to try many of York’s Santa experiences over the years, but somehow we’d never hopped on board to check out the only one that takes place on water: the City Cruises Santa Cruise. So when we were invited to try it this Christmas, we jumped at the chance, and we’re pleased to report that it was well worth the wait. We went along with our youngest (10) and her friend, who couldn’t believe that they’d be able to meet actual Santa on an actual boat! Read on for our full review of the City Cruises Santa Experience so you know what to expect.

We loved it from start to finish: the hour-long experience was really fun and a unique way to see York at Christmas. The festive atmosphere was infectious from the moment we stepped onto the boat, with twinkling lights, cheerful decorations and Santa’s elves busily welcoming everyone and seating them at their reserved tables. We loved the thoughtful touches included in the ticket price, from the kids’ goodie bags, with activities to keep them occupied, to the set of (jingle) bells for every child.

There was great excitement at the arrival of Santa, and each child had the chance to have chat and take photos with him, but without the pressure of a one-to-one that some children (and adults) find tricky. Having children who always clam up when they meet Santa, it was nice to give them the option. Each child was given a gift that was perfect for their age, so no disappointed faces or re-gifting required – phew!

The City Cruises Santa Experiences isn’t just for kids – there’s plenty for adults to enjoy too. Sipping a hot coffee or tea (included with the ticket) and tucking into a mince pie while admiring the gorgeous river views made it special for the grown-ups. It was really nice to see family groups, with everyone from tiny tots to grandparents, having a lovely time together. And if that wasn’t enough, the boat’s bar was stocked, so we took the opportunity to have a celebratory Christmas drink while we cruised past some of York’s prettiest buildings.

Our Verdict

The City Cruises Santa Experiences is one of the most unique ways to meet Santa in York, and it’s easy to see why families return year after year. Watching happy children and relaxed parents enjoying time together against the stunning River Ouse backdrop made it really special. If you’re looking for a memorable way to sail-ebrate Christmas with your kids, the City Cruises Santa Cruise is shore to please.

City Cruises Santa Experience runs on selected dates in November and December and pre-booking is required.
