World famous cakes, teas and coffees in a glorious setting. A trip to Bettys is like stepping back in time – expect silver teapots, fine white china and faultless, friendly service. It’s fantastic at any time of day, for a cup of tea and a cake or a proper meal. Families are welcomed; children can choose from an extensive kids’ menu and nothing is too much trouble. Staff have been known to bring out toys to keep babies entertained. It’s a nice calm atmosphere, though, so maybe one to avoid if they’re in a boisterous mood! There’s a lift downstairs for disabled access which you can also use to take your buggy down.
Best for – Children will love the cake trolley, which is out of this world, and the milkshakes. The chips are fantastic too, although there are lots of healthy(ish) options too. Adults who like to step back in time will love everything about it. If the queue is too long, you could try Bettys Stonegate (the smaller sister cafe). The café there is upstairs so it’s not really set up for buggies, but it’s fine for older children. Read our review of our middle viking’s first afternoon tea at Bettys here.
