In the heart of the city is the Yorkshire Museum, a museum that houses a variety of important archaeological, biological and geological collections among other exhibits. The reason kids love it (and often refer to it as 'the dinosaur museum) is that it's stuffed with dinosaurs, fossils, skeletons, stuffed animals, swords and more. Interactive videos, brass rubbing, dressing up and regular hands-on activities are just some of the things that children enjoy at the Yorkshire Museum.
It’s not the biggest museum but it’s a very good size for younger children and has just enough to keep them interested. Older children with a fascination for all things prehistoric will learn loads through the interactive and hands-on displays. There are regular, excellent exhibitions which are always carefully curated to include elements that children will enjoy.
Good to know – It's situated in the glorious Museum Gardens, making it ideal to combine with a picnic, trip into town or a visit to the children's section of the York Explore Library. You can download trails for children to follow around the museum and gardens from the Museum’s website.
