Making Waves: The Art of Japanese Woodblock Print at York Art Gallery
This major exhibition at York Art Gallery brings over 100 stunning Japanese woodblock prints to the city, including Hokusai’s iconic The Great Wave off Kanagawa. Spanning 300 years, the show explores landscapes, legends, seasonal celebrations and the vibrant ‘floating world’ of historic Japan.
Alongside the prints, you’ll find beautiful kimonos, early printed books, armour and even original woodblocks used by contemporary artists. You can even have a go at creating your own Japanese print to take home!
Don’t miss the Japanese-style dry garden behind the gallery, complete with stone, wood, bamboo and blossom trees in spring.
