If you’ve been having withdrawal symptoms from the bike fever of the Grand Depart, make sure you’re around in York the weekend of September 13th and 14th. The city’s going to be back on two wheels for a couple of days with two events: the York Festival of Cycling and the York SkyRide.
The York Festival of Cycling takes place on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th September at Rowntree Park. There’ll be the chance to watch stunt shows, get advice on all things bike-related from the experts and to have a go at riding all sorts of wheeled wonders yourself (plenty for kids to try too). And it’s all free.
On Sunday 14th September, the Sky Ride rides into town again. This is your annual chance to cycle through York’s streets without worrying about rogue cars or buses. It’s fun for families: we did it last year with our kids in a trailer on the back of the bike (rented from a bike shop for the day) and had a brilliant time. It was a real treat not to have to think about cars and just enjoy seeing the city from two wheels. We had such a good time that we’ve signed up again (more details on how here) – see you there if you’re going.
