York Residents Festival 2019: York for free!

York Residents Festival is always a huge hit, not least because it comes at a time when most of us are tightening our belts after Christmas (not our actual belts, obviously – most of us are still having to loosen them after all the mince pies). It’s a great opportunity to be a tourist in your own city and explore attractions you’ve never visited and take advantage of offers that are strictly locals-only. This year’s event takes place on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th January 2019 and there are some new attractions taking part, including William’s Den and Energy Trampoline Park.

Attractions offering free entry include the following (remember to check the time and dates that free entry applies):

  • Barley Hall
  • Boat trips with City Cruises York
  • DIG: An Archaeological Adventure
  • Fairfax House
  • Holgate Windmill
  • JORVIK Viking Centre
  • York Dungeon
  • York Army Museum
  • York Art Gallery
  • York Castle Museum
  • York’s Chocolate Story
  • York Minster Tower Trips
  • Yorkshire Museum

And these great places beyond York are offering free entry too:

  • Beningbrough Hall
  • Castle Howard
  • National Centre for Birds of Prey
  • Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal
  • William’s Den

Get ready for York Residents’ Festival 2019: Our top tips

  • Find your YorkCard and check it’s valid! You need one per person
  • Have a look at what’s on and see if you need to pre-book. Opening times and offer details vary from one place to the next so you need to do your homework. The Visit York website is the best place to find all the details.
  • Wrap up warm – it’s always falls on a chilly weekend so dig out your gloves in case you have to queue outside for anything
