York’s beautiful all year round, but it really comes to life at Christmas. Find out everything you need to know – including the all-important timings – here.
The lights switch-on marks the beginning of the York Christmas Festival, with lots of festive fun for families to look forward to. It runs in York city centre until 22nd December 2017, and here are some of the highlights.
18th & 19th November – Brass band weekend – Free!
Do your Christmas shopping to the soundtrack of some fantastic brass bands playing festive tunes.
25th & 26th November – Choir weekend – Free!
Heavenly choral music will fill the streets as you brave the crowds
2nd & 3rd December – Festive family weekend – Free!
Lots of festive fun for children to enjoy. Details to be confirmed – keep an eye out for further information.
9th & 10th December – York Ice Trail – Free!
See over 40 frosty figures across York city centre and surrounding streets. It’s one of our favourite events in York – don’t miss it.
Other highlights include the return of Thor’s Tipi in Parliament Street (it’s great for a grown-up drink, but our kids also love going for the hot chocolate and to warm up by the fire) and St Nicholas Fair, with magical market stalls across the city.
