Join us on the first Tuesday of each month for Tranquil Tuesdays. (Term Time only)

From 3pm until closing the lights will be brighter and the audio turned down, creating a tranquil environment for our visitors. This event is perfect for those who prefer to visit in a quieter and more peaceful environment.

Everyone is welcome to attend. Normal admission rates apply and there is no need to book. We have a range of aids available to hire free of charge for visitors with access needs including ear defenders, Braille guides, large print guides, MP3 audio guides, international language leaflets, rollators, electric mobility scooters and wheelchairs.

Join us on Tuesday mornings 9:30am-11:00am for our fun-filled discovery and play sessions for children aged 2 and under. Enjoy sing-along and story time in the soft play area along with a light snack. Adults pay standard admission for 12 months entry, plus £1 per session for your little nipper! This VIP session is perfect for adults and youngsters (age 8 and above) who have a passion for the marine life and an ideal taster for those looking at getting into a Marine Biology.

Go behind the scenes and get hands on with our team of experts to help feed our grey reef sharks, conduct water tests in our lab, tour behind the scenes in our Aquarist department, view the nursery tanks and culture areas, meet and feed the animals at Discovery Corner, explore above Endless Oceans and see if you can spy a turtle and scatter feed some of our largest residents. You can even try on some dive kit – the perfect photo opportunity!

Experiences are available for 2, 3 or 4 people. Packages for 2 people cost £165, for 3 people £235 and for four people £305. One participant MUST be an adult if anyone under the age of 18 is taking part.

There’s nothing like a trail to get kids walking without noticing (and therefore complaining), so we’re very excited about the launch of the new Zog trail at Dalby Forest. Already one of our favourite places to go, it’s about to get even more exciting for kids with this new trail, inspired by the Julia Donaldson classic, which opens on 11th January 2019.

Zog is a loveable but slightly inept dragon who becomes quite the hero, and children can step in his claw-prints at the forest classroom. Learn how animals fly, what sounds they make and how they catch their prey. As well as winning gold stars along the trail, there will be panels with a hidden image that children can find using a coloured lens in their activity pack. Available to buy for just £3, the activity pack will also include a Zog mask, activity sheets a pencil and stickers. A small price to pay for a fun and nag-free walk!

Is your child aged between 8-11 with a passion for marine animals? Then join us for a fun-filled experience day where your youngster can help carry out some of The Deep’s daily activities.

Your child will be part of a group of up to 8 children, who will spend the morning with a member of The Deep’s crew, allowing them to get hands on within the attraction. Activities will include:
Seeing behind the scenes of our river turtle display and Discovery Corner plant room
Taking part in a nori feed at the Lagoon
Cleaning the exhibit acrylic
Taking part in a slime workshop and touch pool session
Invertebrate handling
Question time with a guide
Trying on a dive kit and watching the dive show

Experiences start at 8:30am and finish at 2:30pm. Places cost £37.50 per child, full payment is required at time of booking. Spaces are limited. Please note: adults are not required to accompany children on the day.

Yellow is the Colour of Sunshine is a new play told in words, sign, colours, music and movement about feelings, emotions, empathy and how we communicate. Award-winning writer Brendan Murray collaborates with tutti frutti to bring you a show full of beautiful multi-coloured delights, for children to think about, be inspired by and enjoy.

Remember when York was transformed into a fabulously floral wonderland last year for Bloom!, the city’s festival of flowers? Well, it’s coming back for 2019, smaller but just as bright, and with some activities for families.

The mini Bloom! Flower and Produce Festival will take place on 22nd and 23rd June 2019 in York Minster’s Dean’s Park and will include a Flower and Produce Show with 60 categories. The Flower & Produce Show will run from 12 noon to 4pm on Saturday, while Sunday will offer visitors the chance to buy from local producers at a plant and flower market. Expect plants and posies from the likes of Askham Bryan College, Flower Power York, iBloom, Botanic and more. Get your kids to channel their inner gardener/cook by entering any of the following categories:

Fruit & Vegetable Sculptures with Mim – take inspiration from the buildings, trees and the lofty Minster nearby and create your own eco-friendly, compostable sculptures with land artist Mim Robson. Free event. Saturday 22 June 2 – 3.30pm. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. (Places are limited so please arrive early to avoid disappointment)

Drop-in Mandala Making Workshop with Mim – Come and create your own temporary work of art from the found petals and leaves in the park. Free event. Sunday 23 June. Drop in from 12.30 – 4pm. Open to all ages. Adults too.

The Oxford Shakespeare Company & Lamplighter Drama present a new adaption of Emily Bronte’s ‘Wuthering Heights’.

April De Angelis’ adaption of Bronte’s renowned classic will reignite the passionate & spellbinding tale of forbidden love, performed live in the Gardens of Castle Howard from 26th – 30th June 2019.

Set on the wild, windswept Yorkshire moors, Wuthering Heights is the tempestuous story of free-spirited Catherine and dark, brooding Heathcliff. As children running wild and free on the moors, Cathy and Heathcliff are inseparable. As they grow up, their affection deepens into passionate love, but Cathy lets her head rule her heart as she chooses to marry wealthy Edgar Linton. Heathcliff flees broken-hearted, only to return seeking terrible vengeance on those he holds responsible, with epic and tragic results.

Performances will take place daily at 7.30pm from 26th – 30th June 2019. Matinee performances will also take place at 2.30pm on Thursday 27th, Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th June 2019.
