With York Open Studios coming soon, we’re feeling in an arty mood. So it’s a good time to let you know that York Art Gallery is finally reopening this summer after what seems like forever. The Gallery opens its doors again on 1st August 2015 – Yorkshire Day – ready to show off its £8million development.
We’re excited at the thought of showing our kids that people exist who can draw more than the most basic owls and cats (it’s fair to say the artistic gene passed our family by) and hopefully to inspire them to have a go themselves. They’re already fans of local artist Mark Hearld, so it’s great news that Mark has curated an exhibition for the Gallery’s opening. There’ll lots more to see, too, including an exhibition of the Gallery’s best paintings, prints and drawings of York. And we mustn’t gloss over the fact that Gillygate favourites Cafe No. 8 will be running the new cafe. Yum. Culture, cake and (quietish) kids: a winning combination.
