Two of our favourite York places – The National Railway Museum and York Theatre Royal – have joined forces to offer families a fantastic day out this summer. York Theatre Royal’s Olivier Award-winning production of E. Nesbit’s The Railway Children sets off at the National Railway Museum in July in a purpose-built 1000 seat theatre within the museum. This story of friendship, mystery and adventures features a real locomotive and York pantomime favourite Martin Barrass as Mr Perks.
What’s more, children aged 5 to 11 can take on The Railway Children Challenge, a fun-filled pre-show activity. They’ll learn how to become a train guard with whistles and flags, find out how a steam engine makes steam and become a railway child themselves by re-enacting a scene from the show. Don’t miss the Playing Trains exhibition too.
