York is covered in flowers for Bloom!, so it seems only fitting that this summer’s family show at York Theatre Royal is The Secret Garden. It’s 1910 and spoilt, lonely Mary Lennox lives a life of luxury in India with her aristocratic parents. But when an unexpected twist of fate suddenly leaves her orphaned, she’s sent to live with an unknown uncle in Misselthwaite Manor on the wild Yorkshire Moors. But all is not as bleak as it first appears, and with the help of some unexpected friends, Mary discovers the legend of its secret garden. This classic story will be brought to life with a menagerie of puppets and some wonderful music. It promises to be a summer treat for children and adults alike. Throughout the run, the Studio Theatre will be transformed into a garden where you can make, play, listen to and enjoy a range of activities, like bug and flower crafts and puppetry workshops. Book online for workshops (£5 per child) or pay on the door for shorter activities (£1).
