- Wild Things is a forest school for children and parents in and around York. The sessions are about getting children and parents outdoors to explore, develop their imagination, and be creative. Wild Things Forest School won Best Active Class in the Little Vikings Awards 2019! Their birthday parties are very popular too so book early to secure your date.
Term-time sessions are for children aged 2-4 years and their carers (babies are welcome to accompany their siblings); holiday sessions are for children aged 2-10 years. While Wild Things encourage the sessions to be child-led there is always an activity or focus to help inspire, pass on knowledge and deepen their connection to the outdoors. Children are free to join in the activity or lead their own adventures and learning. Resources are set up to encourage their own learning, some weeks this might be using magnifying glasses, binoculars, tools or cooking up a storm in the mud kitchen… Focused activities include learning about nature, collecting woodland treasures to make crafty creations, den building, learning how to use tools, campfire cooking, storytelling, and playing games. The children learn how to take risks and move around the outdoors safely. They develop resilience through playing outdoors whatever the weather and trying new things. And at the end of every session we have hot chocolate and marshmallows…The sessions are run at Millthorpe School.
