What’s on in York for kids this week (16th June)


Hello all, and hope you’ve had a good Father’s Day. After a break for half term, the free early years classes start up again at York Castle Museum and the Yorkshire Museum this week (call ahead to book). There’s also a free day of family art fun on Saturday at York St Mary’s, and a chance to bag a bargain at the MUMbler nearly new sale on Sunday. Here’s our pick of what’s on in York for kids this week.


Things to do in York with kidsMonday 16th June

Mum and Baby Group – Starbucks, Monks Cross – 9.30am onwards – Free/pay for your coffee after the first 30 coffees

Starbucks at Monks Cross is holding informal get-togethers on Monday mornings from 9.30am for mums (and dads) of small children. The first thirty coffees are free!


Singamajigs Little VikingsTuesday 17th June

Singamajigs – York Theatre Royal – 10.15am and 11am – £3.50 per session or 5 sessions for £15 – Book through the box office

Learn new songs, play percussion instruments and encourage your child to develop both listening and communication skills in a fun and safe environment. For children aged 1 to 4 years old.


Cinema for kids - YorkWednesday 18th June

Big Scream (parents/carers and babies under one) – City Screen Picturehouse – 11am – normal admission prices apply

York Cocoa House HogletsThursday 19th June

Chocolate Hoglets – 9am to 11am – York Cocoa House – £7.50 for a parent and child, £2 per additional child

This new venture from York Cocoa House and Hoglets, a York-based theatre company for children, combines chocolatey treats and a chance to relax for parents and a storytelling workshop for the little ones. Delicious.

Animals: Match the animal fur to the animals, animal role play and guess the animal sounds.


Cinema for kids - YorkFriday 20th June

Toddler Time – City Screen Picturehouse – 11.30am – £3 for children, accompanying adults free if you join the Toddler Time club (free to join).

DIG YorkSaturday 21st June

Little Diggers – DIG – £3 per child, one accompanying adult is free – 10.30am for an hour

The Little Diggers group is a Saturday morning session for 2-5 year olds at DIG. An enthusiastic guide takes the little diggers on an archaeological adventure with a different theme each week. It’s great fun and fantastic value. Booking is essential: call 01904 615 505

Castles: Play in the castle tent, have a feast and dress as a knight.


artFamily art fun day – York St Mary’s – 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm – Free and no need to book

A day of art activity and fun for families, led by students from the University of York in the beautifully York St Mary’s Church (just around the corner from Coppergate) which is currently hosting the Aesthetica prize artworks.


Little Vikings - things to do in York with kidsSunday 22nd June

York MUMbler Baby & Toddler Nearly New Sale – Clements Hall – 3pm to 4.30pm – £1 per adult

Have a rummage through the pre-loved clothes, toys, books and nursery items at this MUMbler nearly new sale. Can get busy, so use a sling rather than a buggy if possible.
