Spring is definitely in the air and we’re feeling cheerful. At last we can stop wrapping the little Vikings up like mini-Michelin men, which makes leaving the house take slightly less time. Hooray. Here’s a selection of what’s going on in York for kids this week.

Mum and Baby Group – Starbucks, Monks Cross – 9.30am onwards – Free/pay for your coffee after the first 30 coffees

The Starbucks at Monks Cross is holding informal get-togethers on Monday mornings from 9.30am for mums (and dads) of small children. The first thirty coffees are free!

For just a fiver, enjoy a delicious buffet breakfast with other parents in a relaxed environment. There’s a weekly speaker and children are welcome.

Toddler Tasting Time – York Castle Museum – 12.30pm to 1.30pm – Free for session (normal entry charges apply for museum entry; York Card holders free)

Drop in to taste some historic ingredients, listen to a story and join in with rhymes related to the ingredients. This week’s ingredient is cracked wheat. Call 01904 650333 to book.

Chocolate Hoglets – 9am to 11am – York Cocoa House – £7.50 for a parent and child, £2 per additional child

This new venture from York Cocoa House and Hoglets, a York-based theatre company for children, combines chocolatey treats and a chance to relax for parents and a storytelling workshop for the little ones. Sounds delicious. More details here.

The Little Diggers group is a Saturday morning session for 2-5 year olds at DIG. An enthusiastic guide takes the little diggers on an archaeological adventure with a different theme each week. It’s great fun and fantastic value. Booking is essential: call 01904 615 505.

Enjoy the city! What about a nice walk along the city walls to look at the daffodils? If you’ve got a buggy, you might want to walk around them at ground level instead – the steps can make it impossible – but you can still have a lovely stroll and see the flowers in bloom.
