Llama Rock Walks  – Brimham Rocks – 10am – 4pm – £3.50 per person

Wednesday 14th August

What's On This Week (13th August) York for KidsKnow your Normans? – The Minster – 10.00am – 3.00pm – £2.50 per participant (plus normal admission charges)

Come and discover York Minster’s Norman past and make a Norman soldier’s helmet to take home! Suitable for ages 5+ (children must be accompanied by an adult). Normal admission charges apply. Refreshments are available every Wednesday between 10am-1pm. Small charge for refreshments, supplied by York Minster Community.

Thursday 15th August

Moshi Swap Day! – Waterstones, High Ousegate – 10-5pm – Free

All day long you can come and swap any Moshlings, Zippsters, Charmlings or cards for ones you haven’t got. Just find a bookseller and tell them you want to Moshi-swap and build your collection.

Friday 16th August

Charcoal Physical Theatre – Free Creative Workshop – Clementhorpe Community Hall – 4pm – 5pm – Free

An hour of ridiculously messy art and extraordinarily silly physical theatre activities, to get the little ones and the big ones, creative juices flowing. And totally free – bargain!

Saturday 17th August

Little Diggers – DIG – £3 per child, one accompanying adult is free – 9.30am for an hour

The Little Diggers group is a Saturday morning session for 2-5 year olds at DIG. An enthusiastic guide takes the little diggers on an archaeological adventure with a different theme each week. It’s great fun and fantastic value (£3 per child at the time of writing). This week’s theme is Romans. Booking is essential: call 01904 615 505.

Meet children’s author Martin King – Waterstones, High Ousegate – 11am – Free

Meet Martin King, author of the Jack Hunter series. Twelve-year-old Jack Hunter’s life couldn’t get any worse, but then he discovers a centuries-old key that unlocks a historical secret….Come along and find out more.

Saturday 17th August

What's On This Week (13th August) York for KidsBeach Party and Barbecue, York Maze – 10am – 6.30pm – normal admission charges

Who needs to jet off to sunnier climes when there’s York Maze’s beach party to look forward to? For one day only, enjoy a surf simulator, limbo dancing, summer tunes and a barbecue. Bikinis optional.

What's On This Week (13th August) York for KidsThe Legend of King Arthur – York Theatre Royal – Until 31 August – Prices vary

York Theatre Royal has been transformed into Camelot for the summer in honour of their spectacular summer show. There are also free activities going on in the building, like jousting to hit a target, stocks with sponges, games and stories. As well as booking tickets for the show itself, you can try one of the workshops below.

Heraldry Workshop – Create your very own coat of arms!  Come to Arthur’s armoury and discover the secrets behind the symbols.  Find out about the pictures that illustrate your family name (or invent your own) and make a shield to take away with you at the end. Suitable for all the family. Cost £4. Takes place from Tuesdays to Saturdays, from 11:30am – 1:30pm and 5:30pm – 6:30pm. Drop in any time.

Knight School Workshop – Come and test your skills, wits and agility at knight school.  Complete King Arthur’s challenges to earn a place at his round table. Suitable for 7-11 year olds. Takes place from Tuesdays to Saturdays, 12 noon – 1pm each day. Cost £5. Contact the box office to book (01904 623 568).

Summer Speed Activities – National Railway Museum – Free

The National Railway Museum has gone to town with family-friendly activities this summer, and entry is free as always. Watch a Punch and Judy show, make your own speed machine and race it down the custom built track or follow the family speed trail throughout the museum. That’s on top of all the usual child-pleasers, like the playground and trains of course.

What's On This Week (13th August) York for KidsFamily Artrageous Workshops – Beningbrough Hall – normal admission charges and occasional additional small fee

From 1pm to 3pm every Monday and Tuesday throughout the holidays, join one of the popular art workshops to make, stick and build your own masterpiece. That’s if you can drag yourself away from the adventure playground.
