Did you survive the Easter holidays? And do you feel like you’ll be happy if you never eat chocolate again? We do! Not to wish the term away, but we’re already gathering up information on all the brilliant things coming up in York for the May half term. In fact it’s all going in the brand new, sparkling Little Vikings magazine that will be out in May (free of charge, available all over York). Keep your eyes peeled for it. With apologies for the delay – a family emergency that meant all our Easter festivities will have to take place a week late – here’s our pick of what’s on in York for kids this week (a quieter one than usual as everyone takes a breather!).
Big Scream (parents/carers and babies under one) – City Screen Picturehouse – 11am – normal admission prices apply
This week’s film is The Love Punch.
Chocolate Hoglets – 9am to 11am – York Cocoa House – £7.50 for a parent and child, £2 per additional child
This new venture from York Cocoa House and Hoglets, a York-based theatre company for children, combines chocolatey treats and a chance to relax for parents and a storytelling workshop for the little ones. Delicious.
Toddler Time – City Screen Picturehouse – 11.30am – £3 for children, accompanying adults free if you join the Toddler Time club (free to join).
This week’s film is Olly The Little White Van.
Little Diggers – DIG – £3 per child, one accompanying adult is free – 10.30am for an hour
The Little Diggers group is a Saturday morning session for 2-5 year olds at DIG. An enthusiastic guide takes the little diggers on an archaeological adventure with a different theme each week. It’s great fun and fantastic value. Booking is essential: call 01904 615 505.
This week’s film is Mr Peabody and Sherman.
There’s lots going on for families at the grand opening of Waterstones’ swanky new Coney Street store. As well as balloon modelling in the children’s department (1pm – 4pm), Spot the dog will be making an appearance. The Lord Mayor will be cutting the ribbon at 11.15am. We’re excited to see the new store and have a coffee in the new café.
Made Locally with Love – Craft and artisan market – Merchant Adventurer’s Hall, Fossgate, York – 11am to 4.30pm – £2/1
This regular craft market always has lots of lovely things to look at, buy and do. There will be free workshops, artisan foods, handmade and contemporary crafts and live music.
