It’s so nice now that the sun’s making an appearance most days (we’ll ignore those days of random fog last week). Suddenly a trip to the park doesn’t seem such hard work. At our house we’re dusting off the scooters and bikes and getting in the mood for Le Grand Depart. It’ll be here before we know it. Here’s our pick of the things to do in York with kids this week – the National Railway Museum’s stunts weekend is a definite highlight.

Mum and Baby Group – Starbucks, Monks Cross – 9.30am onwards – Free/pay for your coffee after the first 30 coffees

The Starbucks at Monks Cross is holding informal get-togethers on Monday mornings from 9.30am for mums (and dads) of small children. The first thirty coffees are free!

Toddler Tasting Time – York Castle Museum – 12.30pm to 1.30pm – Free for session (normal entry charges apply for museum entry; York Card holders free)

Drop in to taste some historic ingredients, listen to a story and join in with rhymes related to the ingredients. This week’s ingredient is oats. Call 01904 650333 to book.

Chocolate Hoglets – 9am to 11am – York Cocoa House – £7.50 for a parent and child, £2 per additional child

This new venture from York Cocoa House and Hoglets, a York-based theatre company for children, combines chocolatey treats and a chance to relax for parents and a storytelling workshop for the little ones. Sounds delicious. More details here.

The Little Diggers group is a Saturday morning session for 2-5 year olds at DIG. An enthusiastic guide takes the little diggers on an archaeological adventure with a different theme each week. It’s great fun and fantastic value. Booking is essential: call 01904 615 505.
