The Witches at York Theatre Royal

This September, York Theatre Royal’s talented 16- to 19-year-old Youth Theatre groups will return to the theatre’s main stage with one of Roald Dahl’s best-loved children’s fantasy stories The Witches. The show takes place from Thursday 1st to Saturday 3rd September and promises to bring this funny, fantastical tale to life with amazing costumes and prosthetics.

As parents of Roald Dahl fans will know, The Witches tells the story of an unnamed boy who is taken in by his grandmother when his parents are tragically killed in a car accident. The doting grandmother takes her young charge on holiday to a traditional English seaside resort where they take up residence in a shabbily grand hotel. Unbeknown to them, the hotel is also the venue for the annual meeting of the world’s witches. Witches notoriously hate children and are planning an evil scheme to rid the world of all children, once and for all. Not for the faint-hearted. It’s a great chance to see an entertaining show, support young performers and show future ones how much fun they can have if they join the Youth Theatre (waiting list permitting…).

Tickets are on sale now priced £16 to £12, £8 under 18s (£1.50 transaction fee per booking) from York Theatre Royal’s box office in person, by phone on 01904 623568 or securely online at yorktheatreroyal.co.uk.
