Books aren’t the only reason that families gravitate towards York Explore Library. As well as a very well-stocked children’s section, and rare baby-changing facilities, there’s also a lovely cafe. There’s a lovely welcoming atmosphere and a tasty range of cakes, drinks and light meals. Eat in or grab something to eat at the Museum Gardens, just around the corner. There are also fanily-friendly cafes at Acomb Explore, Homestead Park (pop-up), Hungate Reading Cafe, Rowntree Park Reading Cafe and The Centre@Burnholme.

While children will want to visit Dreamery Gardens to explore the maze, see the fairy houses or to do the magical fairy trail, adults may well be lured there by the Dreamery Kitchen. Much more than just a place to pick up your tickets, Dreamery Kitchen is a woodland sanctuary where you can enjoy delicious organic coffee, tasty cakes and even lunch. It’s a stylish and relaxing place to visit where children are very welcome. You don’t even need to buy tickets to the Trail to enjoy the delights of the Kitchen. York Theatre Royal Cafe

You don’t need to be catching a show to visit York Theatre Royal. In fact it’s one of our favourite places to meet friends for a coffee or take the kids for a cake or lunch. There’s oodles of space, room for buggies and a short but sweet children’s menu. Keep an eye out for great children’s shows and classes throughout the year from the likes of Story Craft Theatre.
