YORKIE PUDS (18 MONTHS – 3 YEARS)
Our structured and theme-varying toddler classes will immerse our youngest stars in a world of positive creativity that will help them develop the skills they need to truly rise.

TODDLER DANCE (18 MONTHS+)
We will introduce our toddlers to the world of ballet and tap technique, starting off with ballet before switching our shoes for the second half of the class, where we’ll be tapping our toes and immersing the children into a world of rhythm and sound.

KIDS DANCE (4-6 YEARS)
This class instils technique in our young dancers in a fun environment. Focusing on ballet and musical theatre dance technique, students will be introduced to the fundamental elements of these disciplines through a range of exciting and engaging activities.

Our classes are expertly designed to take a holistic approach to an expectant mums’ physical and mental well-being, combining relaxation with cardiovascular exercises to help prepare the body for birth.

Classes take place in the soothing, comforts of pools, providing one of the safest ways to exercise in pregnancy. The water supports your joints whilst also providing resistance work for all the muscles, strengthening your back and abdominal muscles ready for carrying your baby around!

There’s a science behind it too! Exercise and relaxation release your body’s natural happy hormones, endorphins, which suppress pain and help you (and baby) feel calm – not only helpful in later pregnancy, but also really important during and after birth.

Classes are booked in 6-week blocks and take place at Roko Health Club on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm.

Swimming is a journey, not a destination and here at Swim Academy, we learn and have fun all the way! We’ll take your little one from ‘happy getting their faces wet’ to ‘swimming 100m using 3 different strokes’!

We are continually evolving and improving our programmes in line with new research and guidance on swimming and child development as and when it becomes available but also in line with what we learn internally about our swimmers and the way they progress through our programmes. As experts in teaching babies, toddlers and pre-school children to swim, we have this unique insight into child development and have integrated our findings into Swim Academy, our programme for 4-10 year olds.

The Balloon Tree is a wonderful place to go and pick some fruit, with lots of sensible social distancing and Covid-safe measures in place. Do book your fruit-picking before you turn up or you will be disappointed.

THE DETAILS

Youth Theatre sessions run alongside school terms, September to July in three 10/11 week blocks. Ages range is from 5 – 19 years and are split into project groups: 5 – 8’s, 8 – 11’s, 11 – 14’s, 14 – 16’s and 16+. Each project group meets once a week during term time and is led by an experienced practitioner and assistant. They can also provide a mentor if a young person needs additional support.

Youth Theatre takes place in venues across our beautiful city, including:

– New Earswick Folk Hall
– York St John University
– York College
– York Theatre Royal, Studio

Every group has the opportunity to perform at least once a year either in the Main House, Studio or another venue. During production terms, there will be additional rehearsals and dress/technical rehearsals for the participating group.

Each term every group has a theatre trip to a York Theatre Royal production, linked to the Youth Theatre’s work. There is often the opportunity to meet artists with Q&A sessions with visiting actors and acclaimed directors like Emma Rice. Youth Theatre members over 8 years also have an annual trip to the renowned pantomime.

Youth Theatre members are often invited to audition for professional productions, including the theatre’s very own pantomime and summer shows, as well as associated work.

Activities are wide-ranging and may include bug hunting, climbing trees, learning about nature, messy play, storytelling and singing, using their imagination and den building.  The children learn how to move around the outdoors safely and how to take safe risks. Wild Things will inspire children and parents – a stick will never just be a stick again…

Wild Things also helps children and parents to slow down, observe, be aware and reconnect to the outdoors.

Yorkshire Rose Academy of Dance (YRAD) is a fun, friendly and professional dance school where dancers feel like part of a family. Many students grow with us over the years, enjoying multiple classes, making lifelong friends, and developing their skills at their own pace.

Founded by Miss Kerry Whitfield, a graduate of the world-renowned Royal Ballet School, YRAD combines professional training with a warm, supportive atmosphere that helps every dancer shine.

Classes are taught by qualified, experienced teachers and former professional dancers who are passionate about supporting both physical development and mental wellbeing, ensuring every dancer feels safe, valued and confident.

Children build coordination, flexibility, musicality and self-belief while learning to dance safely and joyfully. YRAD follows the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus for Ballet and offers RAD examinations, alongside a full timetable of exciting weekly classes.

With bi-annual showcases, workshops, summer schools, optional private lessons and fun trips, students enjoy brilliant opportunities to perform, progress and shine. Welcoming dancers from age 2 1⁄2 upwards. YRAD is a vibrant, community-focused school where every dancer can flourish — from their very first step to the stage and beyond.
